Skateboarder injured while 'car surfing' with suspected drunk driver

SANTA CLARITA - A 35-year-old man fell from a skateboard today while holding onto a vehicle being driven by a drunken 33-year-old man and suffered critical injuries, authorities said.�

The incident on Cedarfalls Drive just east of Urbandale Avenue was reported to the Santa Clarita Valley station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department just after 5 p.m.�

Edward Culhane had been riding on his skateboard while holding onto a vehicle being driven by Ryan Howell when he fell off, hitting his head on the ground, according to a statement from the Santa Clarita Station. He was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital for treatment.�

Howell was arrested and booked for felony DUI, the statement said. �He is suspected of having been driving the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
